HB 353 to make Reds, Specks and Stripers gamefish in NC-It’s really happening!

It finally happened! The got a bill onto the floor of the state House to officially designate gamefish status to the big three in the Old North State. I had heard that things were really going to change but I am afraid that I was a bit of a skeptic after all I had been through in the past. But now a few people who really had the time and the resources have really gone and made this happen. Now it’s more important than ever to contact state reps and senators in NC to show our support for this bill. It’s even supposed to take effect this summer if it gets passed!
Here is the summary:

GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NORTH CAROLINA SESSION 2011 H D HOUSE DRH60052-SB-13 (02/23) Short Title: Designation of Coastal Game Fish. (Public) Sponsors: Representatives McCormick, Glazier, Ingle, and Samuelson (Primary Sponsors). Referred to:

*DRH60052-SB-13*

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1

AN ACT TO DESIGNATE RED DRUM, SPOTTED SEA TROUT, AND STRIPED BASS 2 AS COASTAL GAME FISH; TO PROHIBIT THE TAKING OF COASTAL GAME FISH 3 OTHER THAN BY HOOK-AND-LINE; TO PROHIBIT THE SALE OF COASTAL 4 GAME FISH; AND TO COMPENSATE COMMERCIAL FISHERMEN FOR CERTAIN 5 LOSSES DUE TO THE DESIGNATION AND PROHIBITION

So how about that?

About time they get this done. I always said take out the money and take out the targeting. Hopefully it goes through now. As for giving them money? I say get real, I dont get paid to get another job, why should they? They are the reason these fish have to be protected from over fishing and waste in the first place.
